Frontline Health and Social Care workers are high priority to be offered the Covid-19 vaccine
Updated 31st January 2021
Hospital Hub sites (University Hospital Southampton and Oakley Road), not GP practices or PCNs, are now leading on the vaccination of health and social care staff. They are working to the NHS England operational guidance issued on 7 January 2021 which outlines staff groups as including but not limited to the following:
- Staff working on the vaccination programme
- Staff who have frequent face-to-face contact with patients and who are directly involved in patient care in either secondary or primary care, mental health, urgent and emergency care and community settings including dentists, optometrists and pharmacists
- Those working in independent, voluntary and non-standard healthcare settings such as hospices, and community-based mental health or addiction services
- Laboratory, pathology and mortuary staff including funeral directors
- Those working for a sub-contracted provider of facilities services such as porters or cleaners
- Temporary, locum or ‘bank’ staff, including those working in the COVID-19 vaccination programme, students, trainees and volunteers who are working with patients
- Frontline social care workers directly working with vulnerable people who need care and support irrespective of where they work (for example in hospital, people’s own homes, day centres, or supported housing); or who they are employed by (for example local government, NHS, independent sector or third sector).
It’s not an open booking system and the Hubs will contact a sector at a time in turn.
NHS Trusts have been completed. Social care is underway. Dentists, Pharmacists and Opticians are next. Hubs will be contacting them next week with further details on how and where to book.
If you do not work in a nursing or care home please DO NOT telephone the surgery, but instead email whccg.covid.vaccination.enquiries@nhs.net who will be happy to respond.
It is also useful for the surgery to know you are a Frontline Health and Social Care Worker for our records and as such we would be grateful if could please complete and submit the form below:
